Watch Starlink launch live

Post by rwilkinson » Sun Mar 15, 2020 8:01 am

The next batch of Starlink satellites are due to launch on a Falcon 9 rocket around 1:20pm this afternoon.
It should be streamed live from here: https://youtu.be/JVuS4IS2Kvs

It will be from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
This re-usable Falcon 9’s first stage supported the Iridium-7 NEXT mission in July 2018, the SAOCOM 1A mission in October 2018, the Nusantara Satu mission in February 2019, and the second launch of Starlink in November 2019. Following stage separation, it should return and make a soft-landing on their droneship, stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.
Furthermore, the fairing (which surronds the payload during launch) is also recycled, having been used on the first launch of Starlink in May 2019. Approximately 45 minutes after liftoff, SpaceX’s fairing recovery vessels will attempt to recover the two fairing halves from the Ocean.

Well, they had good weather and the countdown got right down to zero but then an abort was called, when the flight computers sensed a problem with the thrust. As the commentator said, "there are a thousand ways in which a launch can go wrong, but only one way it can go right".
So this mission will be rescheduled.

They made another successful launch last night:

and this time the first stage made a perfect landing on their robot-barge too.
