Comet 2020 A2 (Iwamoto)

Post by rwilkinson » Fri Feb 28, 2020 11:41 am

This comet was doscovered by a Japanese amateur (albeit a retired professional astronomer) at the start of the year and is now rising in our evening skies.
I got my first glimpse of it earlier in the week, using the new 11" Celestron Rowe-Ackermann astrograph iTelescope in New Mexico:

Iwamoto on 24-Feb. 5x 120-sec with 279mm f/2.3 (iTelescope T68)

But last night I managed it from Bolton too:

It's only around 11th magnitude and already begining to fade, but will remain well-placed for a few weeks as it tracks through Camelopardalis towards Auriga: http://www.aerith.net/comet/catalog/2020A2/chart2.gif
