Comet C/2020 F8 (SWAN)

Post by rwilkinson » Mon May 04, 2020 7:07 pm

At present this is only visible in the Southern hemisphere, but I've just been looking at the latest pictures of it from Namibia:

:o Definitely a spectacle, not a speck!

It will be appearing low in the NW at dusk in the second half of this month, tracking between Perseus and Auriga.

We'll only have a brief opportunity to see this, during the last week of May. At that time it will be low in the North-West: less than 15 degrees above the horizon in the evening twilight (not far from the bright star Capella).

Last night I was checking my sight-lines and it looks like I may be able to catch it in a gap between the surrounding trees and houses.
